Vision turned into Reality
Mrs Kamla Poddar started her career on a humble note in 1994. Mrs Kamla Poddar believed that education was an opportunity which no individual should be deprived of. In the time when students primarily opted for mainstream subjects, she saw opportunity for young aspirants in unconventional fields. She decided to bring the best in career-oriented education to Rajasthan.
Education of girls and women was a prime focus area for Mrs Poddar. In Rajasthan's conservative environment where young girls were not given adequate opportunities, Mrs Kamla Poddar introduced co-ed institutes to encourage girls to shape their careers.
In 1999, she started the Kamla Poddar Institutes (KPI). The Inter National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) was the first institute to operate under the aegis of KPI. Today, it has grown to be reckoned as one of the most acclaimed centres of INIFD, nationally and internationally.
After a successful beginning, there was no looking back. KPI grew from strength to strength by tying up with leading institutes and offering their accredited courses. The institutes include PIIT, Flying Cats and NIS Academy. INIFD's Jaipur campus has been chosen as India Fashion Week's first and proud 'knowledge partner'. Today, a decade since its inception, KPI has not only encouraged students to choose unconventional streams, but has also shaped innumerable promising careers.
Mrs Kamla Poddar was one among the 23 short listed women achievers in India including the likes of Chanda Kochar, Naina L Kidwai and Sulajja Firodia Motwani. She was nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Mrs Poddar has also been awarded the 'Rotary Service Award' in recognition of outstanding services rendered, professional achievements and contributions by her.
Kamla Poddar holds various facets to her personality; a doting mother, a compassionate wife, an inspiring academician and an ardent social worker. As a prominent member of numerous social organisations, she works towards addressing pertinent social issues and concerns.
